Wabi - Sabi

In Japanese culture Wabi-Sabi is the appreciation of the transitory nature of the natural world, the attractive melancholy of the short-lived nature of things. It represents the passing of time and what remains; it reminds us that we are all a fleeting presence on this planet and we must accept the natural cycle of growth, decadence and death.

Wabi is melancholy, sweet sadness, evanescence and imperfection, while Sabi is the passing of time, that which vanishes and does not return. Together they are a eulogy for impermanence that invites us to enjoy the here and now, and not punish ourselves for what has been or worry about what will be; in short, happiness.

We want to represent the beauty of transience and imperfection with a skull, lined in antique Japanese kimono silk and matched with coloured stones.

The collection has two pairs of earrings: the first pair uses the same skull design, but is asymmetrical in size and composition; the second pair is smaller in size and its parts are all symmetrical.

Both pairs of earrings are also made in black or transparent plexiglass and set with pearls and black stones.
