The MITO collection presents asymmetrical earrings with a Dragon King in one lobe and a Tor-ii in the other, made with antique Japanese kimono silk. The silks are fitted on to a lacquered wood base form, in six different colours, using antique oriental methods. The earrings are mounted exclusively in 925 Silver.
The Tor-ii is the traditional Japanese gateway of a sanctuary or 'holy area'. Ryu, the Dragon King, lives in his palace at the bottom of the sea, near the Ryuku Islands. Built in red and white coral and guarded by the Dragons, the mythical palace is full of treasure. The fish and the sea creatures are servants to Ryu and the sea turtles are his messengers. In the North of the castle it snows all year long, in the East butterflies fly in the Room of Spring and the cherry tree is always blooming, in the South crickets sing in the hot evenings of the Room of Summer and lastly, in the West, brightly coloured maple trees grow in the Room of Autumn. For a human being, a day on earth is the equivalent of a hundred years in this palace. The collection becomes a tale.
