ENSO – The Spiritual Diary of the Artist
Paolo Perugini is the designer of Lebole Gioielli’s ENSO collection. Paolo Perugini, who goes by the name of Perù, is an eclectic sculptor whose works range from environmental sculpture to design. His trademark style is the re-use and recovery of old materials that are given new life through his art. In this new collection he uses metal circles galvanised gold and semi-circles in leather, fitted with antique Japanese kimono silks. Each piece is decorated with natural stones that match the colours of the fabric. The earrings are symmetrical and come in three different sizes.
The collection’s leitmotif is the circle - Ensō.
The Enso is the most common character in Japanese calligraphy. It symbolises illumination, strength and the universe. Many believe that the character of an artist is only fully revealed by the way in which they draw this circle. It is also held that only a mentally and spiritually complete person can draw a true ensō. Some artists draw an ensō every day, as a kind of spiritual diary.
